In this shoot I tried a very different approach to all of my previous shoots throughout the course. Here instead of using a DSLR camera, I used an iPhone 6 which was much more efficient when considering the content of the shoot. In this shoot I went to a music concert who's headlining act was Panic! at The Disco. I tried to capture photographs which depicted the experience most effectively. In order to achieve this I positioned myself I'm the centre of the crowd/audience with a decent view of the act. By taking the pictures in this way it positions the viewers in my perspective whilst watching the performance. This shoot showed a sense of the journey in terms of the band themselves, travelling and touring the world, performing for their fans. Also by showing the crowd in the photos, it's illustrates a group of people who have travelled with the same purpose and in this case it was to see the band. The only issue I came across with this shoot would be trying to get good quality pictures which at some times was hard as I was in the centre of the audience. By taking different photos at different stages of the concert I intended to show the progression and different stages of the performance, highlighted through the different lighting position, styles and colours.
I felt that this photograph worked most effectively when illustrating the size of the audience. This is because here the audience are seen easier light causing outlines of their heads and arms. They are more visible due to the different lighting used, here the lighting is much brighter and is projected towards the audience, causing the outlining effect. There are many lines seen through the beams of lighting from the stage and also the lights produce a very cold and sad atmosphere through the use of the colour blue. This works very effectively as it also relates to the song playing and therefore causes the audience to feel a specific emotion, allowing for an immersive experience as their mood is affected by the audio and also the visuals. This shows the great effect that colour can have and people in the way it creates atmosphere. I like the way the band is positioned evenly across the stage which the main focus being on the singer who is positioned in the centre of the stage.
I feel that this piece had the potential to be very effective and successful but due to a couple of issues, the effectiveness is slightly lowered. I feel that the lighting arrangement is very effective as the beams of white light stand out from the rest of the composition. Also these light beams come together to form a type of crosshatch pattern in the centre of the composition. This almost works perfectly, if this lights were in a slightly different position the performer would be visible as he is slightly lost in the brightness of the lights. Also there is a hand which is in the way slightly to the left of the frame which slightly obstructs the view. However I like the way that the edges and audience are very dark in composition to the centre of the composition which allows the performer to stand out. The direction of the light is made clear through the way in which the light beams converge and spread in the direction the light is travelling. Also the colour red of the lights create a very intense, passionate and emotional mood.
Progression
In my next shoot I would like to trial photographing strangers whilst travelling or on transport as I feel that it effectively captures natural emotion and action. By doing a trial shoot I will be able to gain an understanding on whether there is much point in carrying on with style of photography.
